We are a county level private, not-for-profit organization that has a mission to gather historical and genealogical information, to maiintain the information and make it available to interested persons. Soon to have on display various Perry County artifacts as well as our Perry County photo collection consisting of over 10,000 images.

Since its creation in 1905, The State Museum of Pennsylvania has collected, preserved, researched, and interpreted the cultural and natural history of the state. Over the years, the museum has greatly expanded its collections and modernized its public offerings to serve the needs of succeeding generations of Pennsylvanians. Originally located next to the Capitol, the museum moved to its current location in 1964.

The Center for Art in Wood

The Center displays wood art on site and in our traveling exhibitions and publications. Our International Turning Exchange (ITE) residency program has involved over 100 international residents as it continues through its second decade. The Community Outreach program brings hands-on wood turning and woodworking experience to students throughout the region. The permanent collection contains over 850 objects from around the world, ranging from traditional functional every-day objects to contemporary sculpture. Our research library consists of over 25,000 images, artists' files and books that help preserve the exciting history of wood turning and woodworking and their continuing evolution as a contemporary art form.

The Jimmy Stewart Museum

The Jimmy Stewart Museum, located in Indiana, Pennsylvania (Jimmy's hometown) highlights its namesake's accomplishments in film, radio and TV. His roles as military hero, civic leader, family man and world citizen are also woven into displays, film presentations and gallery talks. There's even a special room dedicated to his family's long and colorful history in Western Pennsylvania. A daguerreotype of his great grand-dad in Civil War uniform, baby photos of Jimmy, and his dad's old desk from the family hardware store are all on display.

We have a permanent collection gallery, two traveling exhibition galleries and a gallery dedicated to student and faculty exhibitions. All galleries are able to be divided. We also have a "smart" classroom and curatorial spaces that are open for research and visits from the public by appointment.

The Weightlifting Hall of Fame contains a diverse history of the strength sports, their evolution from mythology to early Olympic Games and from the 19th and 20th century amateur and professional strongmen to the current specialized sport of Olympic weightlifting, powerlifting and bodybuilding.
